We’ve all had the experience of a song in the background catching our attention, leaving us with the urge to ask total strangers if they could reveal to us the song name. When the opening of This Is Painless resonated out, I re-lived that experience. The introductory track from Rainbow Dissolve’s first EP Wall of Eyes features crescendo guitars that narrow your attention into the song and sets you into the sober, reflective climate it creates. The four piece from Glasgow definitely bring their own sound to the world of music with a deep range of moody, dreamy and at all times visually awakening ambiences.

Angus the ‘shredder’ expresses “Behind every vibration lies a drop of inspiration”, which is certainly true for the instrumental fourth song of the EP Microtones & Milliseconds. Under a minute in length but brimming with meditative emotion and contemplative tone, it’s clear that the musicians at work here have poetry in their understanding of music, intentionally reaching out to their audience and inviting them to free their psyches and open their imaginations. It’s not just the vibes you hear that set the atmosphere either, with lyrics like “at the hospital, they laugh in my face, then they put my spine, out of place” [from 101 Injuries] you can’t help but place yourself out of the world you’re currently focussing on to re-tune to a different and more beautifully twisted environment.
